D7 History Decade - 1940 Print E-mail

District 7 Toastmasters separated from district two in June 1940 with three clubs. The Great Depression ended and returning economic prosperity encouraged individuals to join Toastmasters that resulted in chartering new clubs. Two clubs chartered in District 7 in 1940 with eight clubs in district. World War II caused many clubs to disband. Toastmaster’s International officials forced to cancel the planned Seattle 1942 Toastmasters conference and subsequent conferences for duration of the war. Many Toastmasters manuals and educational materials in short supply because of war rationing. District 7 governor appointed another Governor to manage western part of District 7 due to gasoline rationing.

After the War, ended returning veterans with interest in improving themselves joined Toastmasters. This situation resulted in rapid growth of Toastmasters International and District 7.
